This course presents the detailed processes involved in the selection of an information system that would be able to meet the current and near future needs of a blood center or transfusion service. The course emphasizes methods for assembling work groups that would identify the informational needs of the organization, its customers (internal and external), requirements of suppliers, and the functionalities for administration and budgeting. In addition, particular consideration and discussion will be directed to define the need for a stand-alone system versus an integrated model. Finally, validation, technical implementation and go-live issues will be discussed.
